Refrigerant R507a

R507A is a zero-ODP, near-azeotropic HFC blend developed as a direct retrofit and new-fill replacement for R502 in commercial refrigeration. It is composed of R125 and R143a (50%/50%), classified as a non-flammable A1 safety group. Known for its excellent energy efficiency and high cooling capacity, it is a dominant choice for low and medium-temperature applications, including supermarket systems, industrial cold storage, walk-in freezers, and transport refrigeration.

While offering superior performance and minimal temperature glide (less than 0.6°C), R507A has a very high Global Warming Potential (GWP ≈ 3985). This places it under strict regulatory phase-down schedules worldwide. Consequently, it is primarily used today for servicing existing equipment, while new systems increasingly adopt next-generation, lower-GWP solutions like R452A or natural refrigerants (e.g., R744/CO2). It operates at high pressure and requires compatible components and POE lubricants.
