Pentafluoroethane (chemical formula: CF3CHF2), also known as R-125, is a refrigerant.

It has an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0, but a high global warming potential (GWP).

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, its GWP is 3,450 times that of carbon dioxide.

Pentafluoroethane can be mixed with difluoromethane to form a near-azeotropic refrigerant, R-410A, which is a refrigerant that can replace many chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in air conditioning systems. 

Pentafluoroethane is also used as a fire extinguishing agent in fire extinguishing systems.
