HFO-1234YF (2,3,3,3-Tetrafluoropropene) is a novel fluorinated olefin compound, primarily used as a refrigerant and fire extinguishing agent. Its foreign name is 2,3,3,3-Tetrafluoropropene, CAS number 754-12-1, molecular formula C3H2F4, density 1.2±0.1 g/cm³, boiling point -36.3±8.0 °C.

Developed with the participation of companies such as DuPont, Dow Chemical, Daikin, and Honeywell, it has been gradually promoted since 2011.

This substance can replace HFC-134a in automotive air conditioning and refrigerator refrigeration systems, and also covers industrial fields such as fire extinguishing agents and foaming agents. Its safety rating is listed as A2L. Relevant domestic national standards will be implemented.

Although the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) classifies HFO-1234yf as slightly flammable, years of testing by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) have shown that it will not ignite in the environment of automotive air conditioning systems.

Other independent third-party assessments of the product also conclude that HFO-1234yf is as safe as R-134a for use in automobiles.

In the atmosphere, HFO-1234yf degrades into trifluoroacetic acid, a strong acid with slight phytotoxicity, but it does not degrade in water.
